For the second year in a row, the World Poker Tour Foundation enlisted Ace Indoor Golf to provide a golf simulator for their big New York City charity event this past July 26th.
The charity recipient of the sold-out “Take ‘Em To School Poker Tournament” at Gotham Hall in New York was Education Reform Now, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that has become the “go-to” source for model education reform policies, coordinating bipartisan efforts to give children in all 50 states access to a quality public education.
The WPT Foundation was so pleased with their Ace indoor Golf simulator in 2016 that they asked for a return simulator set up for this year’s event. While the focus was on poker for most participants, many players and spectators found their way to our sim to play various challenges, including Closest to the Pin and Long Drive contests.
The Guest Speaker at this year’s event was Senator Jeff Klein (New York), Event Chairs included Whitney Tilson (Manager, Kase Capital), Michael Sabat (Equity Derivatives Sales, Sanford C. Bernstein), John Sabat (Quantitative Portfolio Manager, Cubist Systematic Strategies). Others in attendance included David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital, Boaz Weinstein of Saba Capital, Paul Britton of Capstone, and John Petry of Sessa Capital. Pro-Poker players in attendance included Andy Frankenberger, Erik Seidel, Layne Flack, and highest-earning women’s player, Vanessa Selbst. Former NBA stars Allan Houston, Charles Smith, and John Starks were all there too. “American Pie” actress Elizabeth Shannon came close to winning the tournament.
In an event that allowed professional poker players from all over the globe to rub elbows with celebrities from the worlds of Sports, Television and Film, not to mention raise over $850,000 for Education Reform Now, the one thing that every one could agree on at the World Poker Tour was that the Ace Indoor Golf simulator came up “four pips”!
